Gerard's Gallery
......
Gerard's artwork contains both objective portraits and abstract prints.
The signature style of Gerard's portraits shows a person’s face, not as simply a surface presentation, but as a many-faceted personality. Each portrait is composed of several and images of the same person to reflect the many parts of that person’s personality, cultural beliefs and feelings. There is a separation of pieces within each portrait. The intent of this separation is to give the viewer the feeling of looking into an inner personality, rather than merely observing the surface contours and textures of a face. The faceted, separated pieces of the portrait involve the viewer in examining, identifying and discovering a particular face and personality. Gerard wishes to convey the uniqueness of each individual, increase our awareness of that person’s background, and encourage a desire to know more about that person. The portraits are done in various media including the NOVA print described on the NOVA Print page.
The abstracts are created in a computer and then printed using the NOVA print method.
Gerard's photography shows both his sense of humor and his interest in abstract images. In addition to his street and abstract photography, many of Gerard's photos are taken at the National Gallery of Art, a local national treasure that provides a wonderful setting for photographers.
